Patience.

I struggle with it. Hard. I’m not a very graceful person when I know there’s a mountain of things to be done and the one thing keeping me from it just won’t move! I like to have my hands set firmly around the helm of my day so I can accomplish everything I set out to do, wether that’s at home or the office, doesn’t matter. I like to get all the things done (after I drink all the coffee of course, because…mornings).

But all too often I find myself a victim of my own expectations- I meant to get up earlier but didn’t do now my 9.5 year old isn’t ready (and she is as equally bad at mornings as mama).

Or, and this is one of the worst- I spend all week mapping out a nice list of groceries and things we need, get all the coupons for it to “save all of the dollars” as Brinlee would say…get to the store, get a great parking space, in we go and where is the list?? That’s right, kitchen table. At home. Not here. *sigh*

Life is like that sometimes. Don’t get me wrong- I have a pretty great hand in this game right now. But at times even the best of us can feel like we’re being looked over. Like when you go to a busy restaraunt, you call ahead, get a good table, show up dressed nice, use all your manners. A few others are seated after you, but you don’t mind at first. Til the waiter comes to them and not you. Til the drinks are offered to them and not you. Til the food comes out for them and not you.

But sweet friend, can I tell you a secret? You don’t want their order. Jesus has something so special and so specific He’s making JUST FOR YOU, and it’s going to take some time. You wouldn’t expect a world class 5-star three course dinner in Paris to get done in the same time as your preschooler’s chicken nuggets, right? Right.

I think as Christians we get easy sucked into the idea that a delay of our dream is the death of it, too. But really, that delay could be for a much needed development of US. It is so hard to trust and have faith when we believe we are ready for (insert really big awesome life long dream we’ve prayed-fasted-asked for repeatedly) thing. But if we can just sit back and admire the right now, appreciate here, He with cross the “T” in our there at just the right moment, and all our wait will be worth it in His timing.
